To further extend its mission of training the next generation of skilled tradespeople, The Home Depot Foundation is granting $1 million to its veteran-led disaster response partner Team Rubicon to build a new trades training program.

The Home Depot is opening four new distribution centers, expanding its pro ecosystem to Detroit, southern Los Angeles, San Antonio and Toronto in 2024. The new facilities are a key component of The Home Depot’s strategy to better serve pro customers.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the United States experienced 28 weather and climate disasters with losses exceeding $1 billion each in 2023. It’s a stark difference to the three separate billion-dollar weather disasters reported in 1980.

As part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ongoing We’re for Water campaign, Fix a Leak Week takes place March 18-24, 2024. It encourages Americans to help put a stop to the nearly 1 trillion gallons of water wasted from household leaks each year.

“My mother has such a strong work ethic that I could not help but follow her lead,” shares Dominicana Figueroa, regional rental manager at The Home Depot. Dominicana has many accomplishments thus far: being the first person in her family to go to college, earning three degrees.

Today, The Home Depot Foundation is highlighting a few women who have participated in the Path to Pro program as they share why they’ve chosen to embark on this career journey.

What started as a part-time job turned into a 34-year career for Regional Vice President Brock Darby. Over the years, he’s interacted with many associates at The Home Depot, and being fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) allows him to communicate with more than most.

Stephen was paralyzed after a tree fell on his neck in 2010, requiring him to use a wheelchair. He recently partnered with an organization that helped pay for a new power lift but still needed assistance for the remaining balance.

In early 2016, a couple of months into her deployment in Bagram, Afghanistan, U.S. Army Specialist (SPC) Maggie Bilyeu was critically injured. She sustained multiple shrapnel wounds to her chest and torso, a broken leg and numerous internal injuries as a result of a bombing.
