Marathon Oil (MRO:NYSE) publishes 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility Report

Marathon Oil Corporation has released its 2009 “Living Our Values” Corporate Social Responsibility Report. The report is available for view at

A major feature of this year’s report is a transition to the well-established Environmental, Social and Governance framework (ESG).  Marathon’s report remains rooted in the core corporate values of health and safety, environmental stewardship, honesty and integrity, corporate citizenship and high performance team culture; the report uses the ESG framework to consolidate related topics and streamline the printed report.

More significantly, Marathon articulates 16 broad corporate CSR goals.  The report describes the current metrics or status across the reporting framework, lays out the targets, and discusses the corresponding action plans developed to achieve the goals.  These include:
Reducing GHG emissions intensity 4 percent by 2013;
Improving energy efficiency 5 percent by 2015;
Respecting the human rights of all stakeholders and raising awareness of human rights issues across the business;
Promoting openness in business dealings and revenue transparency through the EITI process; and
Achieving and maintaining top quartile safety performance within the industry.
