Vodafone Group plc has published its 2009/10 Sustainability Report online at: www.vodafone.com/responsibility
The report outlines how Vodafone, one of the world's largest mobile communications companies by revenue, has performed on the environmental and social issues most material to its business. It also details the company's efforts to address sustainability opportunities and challenges across its base of more than 341 million proportionate customers, spanning both developed and developing countries across its 24 local markets.
Key highlights from the past year include:
reaching more than 13 million registered customers with Vodafone Money Transfer (M-PESA, M-Paisa), a service that provides basic financial services to people in developing markets;
launching Vodafone Health Solutions, a business unit delivering health products and services in developed and emerging markets;
rolling out more efficient network equipment and installing more than 4400 free-cooling boxes, achieving a nine per cent decrease in carbon dioxide emissions in developed markets over the past three years;
establishing a partnership with British Gas to supply nearly one million Machine-to-Machine mobile connections for domestic smart meters;
responding to emerging market issues as its footprint expands across Africa and India;
extending the World of Difference programme to an additional five markets and reaching 750 participants to date, allowing individuals to work for the charity of their choice for up to one year.
The report also highlights Vodafone’s first placing in the Tomorrow's Value Rating of the ICT and telecoms sector, a recognition that it has comprehensive governance, a strong track record of developing services to help disadvantaged people, and listening and responding to stakeholders.
