Banco Bradesco (NYSE:BBD) publishes 2009 Bradesco Sustainability Report

For the fourth consecutive year, Bradesco adopted the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) directives for its 2009 Sustainability Report. It also used specific indicators, guided by the GRI’s Financial Services Sector Supplement which can be read here.

This year’s focus is on banking inclusion and microcredit, key components of Bradesco’s business strategy, and on their relationship with sustainable development.

The report presents Bradesco’s sustainability vision, i.e. how sustainability is inserted into the Organization’s strategy, divided into three pillars. Sustainable Finance, Responsible Management and Socio-environmental Investments.

The subjects covered were defined based on consultations with the Organization’s stakeholders.

The report meets application level A+, the highest in terms of adherence to GRI standards, and was audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers Auditores Independentes, which also confirmed the accuracy of the information provided in the report.

Information quality and adherence of the preparation process of the report to AA1000 Assurance Standard 2008 principles were verified by BSD Consulting Brasil. The independent verification assessed adherence to the principles of inclusivity, materiality and response capacity.

Bradesco is one of the largest private banks in Brazil and the largest insurance company in Latin America, with assets totaling R$ 558.10 billion in June 2010. Bradesco reached a market capitalization of R$ 87.9 billion, with an annualized return on average equity [1][2] of 22.8% in 1H10. Founded 67 years ago and a publicly-held company since 1946, listed on the São Paulo, New York and Madrid stock exchanges, it is recognized around the world for its financial solidity and excellent customer service.
