The Port of Los Angeles is to start paying carriers that use low-emission vessels at their facility. The port company estimates that 30% of the ships that go through it will qualify for the reward, part of an international clean air program that it has signed up to, and hopes will attract the newest technology and most energy-efficient ships. Ship emissions are, unsurprisingly, the single largest source of port air pollution.
