MetLife (NYSE:MET) publishes Corporate Citizenship Report 2009

MetLife, a leading global provider of insurance, employee benefits and financial services, recently introduced its Corporate Citizenship Report. Although MetLife has had a longstanding commitment to social responsibility and environmental sustainability, 2009 was the first time the company issued a report focusing on its efforts.

Highlights include:

Over $1 billion has been invested in renewable energy projects including wind, solar, and geothermal over the past several years.
$234 million in loans and equity investments supported community improvement, especially affordable housing and economic development in 2009.
Several of the company’s U.S. offices have received green building designations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
The company has reduced energy consumption in its offices 15% since 2006.
$43.8 million in contributions were made to nonprofit organizations for health, education, civic and cultural initiatives in 2009.
