Accenture has published its 2008-2009 Corporate Citizenship Report, “Our Journey, Our Progress,” which explores the company’s global corporate citizenship activities and sustainability initiatives, as well as its progress and challenges.
The report also serves as Accenture’s first Communication on Progress to the United Nations Global Compact, which the company signed in January 2008.
The report highlights Accenture’s new corporate citizenship focus, Skills to Succeed, which educates people around the world, building skills that enable them to participate in and contribute to the economy. It also focuses on the company’s environmental stewardship efforts, including its commitment to reducing its per capita carbon footprint 40 percent by the end of fiscal 2012 from its 2007 baseline and its work helping clients achieve high performance through sustainability.
Other key elements of the report include:
Corporate governance - Accenture’s Code of Business Ethics, corporate citizenship governance and monitoring and compliance approach, as well as its goal of attaining completion rates for Ethics and Compliance training of 100 percent in fiscal 2010
People - the importance of Accenture’s core values, its Human Capital Strategy, programs aimed at supporting an inclusive, diverse environment and training and development efforts, such as investing nearly $800 million in training employees in fiscal 2009
Suppliers - the company’s supply chain sustainability and diversity efforts, such as the launch of its Supplier Standards of Conduct and the fact that 98 percent of all Accenture Procurement RFPs issued in fiscal 2009 included environmental questionnaires
Additionally, the report includes a Performance Data Summary, which quantifies the progress made on reduced carbon emissions and provides data on indicators such as ethics and compliance training rates, Accenture Foundations contributions, women new hires and procurement spend to diverse suppliers.
