The world's largest pizza-delivery chain has taken action to counter allegations in the US that it is refusing to deliver to areas with large ethnic minority populations by approving a statement that its delivery policy will not be determined on racial grounds.

The move came after an 18-month Justice Department investigation into the allegations, which found they were not proven but recommended that Domino's Pizza should adopt a written policy on the matter to avoid any confusion.

The statement says Domino's 4550 corporate and franchise-owned stores in the US will deliver pizza to all areas that do not pose an actual safety threat to drivers.

Domino's spokeswoman Holly Ryan, told EP: 'Our procedures have always been based on ensuring the safety of our delivery teams and nothing else, including race.

'But we didn't have anything in a written policy form that all our franchisees could see. Delivery policy will now be based on police reports of certain areas and will be reviewed once a year,' she added.
