Teck Resources Limited (“Teck”) has released an Economic Contributions Report, providing information about the economic benefits generated by its activities, including payments to suppliers, employee wages and benefits, and payments to governments. The report builds on Teck’s commitment to transparency and voluntary disclosure.
“This report provides a detailed look at the economic benefits created at our mining operations, exploration projects and offices around the world,” said Ron Millos, Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Teck. “We believe that transparency around economic contributions can help stakeholders to understand the benefits generated by our activities, and how those benefits are distributed for local, regional and national economic and social development.”
Teck’s 2016 Economic Contributions Report is their first annual independent report of payments to governments and other economic contributions.
In 2016, Teck distributed $8.6 billion in economic benefits across all areas where it operates, including:
- $6.3 billion in payments to suppliers;
- $1.4 billion in wages and benefits for employees; and
- $792 million in payments to different levels of government.
