Nike scored a publicity victory over rivals Adidas when the two were challenged by Greenpeace to detox by committing to eliminating releases of all hazardous chemicals across its entire supply chain and product life-cycle by 2020. Nike’s promise to remove persistent, bioaccumulative and hormone-disrupting substances from its supply chain came five weeks after a Greenpeace report, Dirty Laundry, revealed commercial links between major clothing brands and suppliers responsible for releasing toxic pollution into Chinese rivers.
