Three quarters of the British public think banks should have ethical lending policies to prevent them from investing in, or lending to, companies involved in controversial areas such as arms manufacturing, or those with poor records on the environment and human rights. An Ipsos MORI poll on behalf of Eiris found that 73 per cent felt banks should have such policies, while 77 per cent said banks or financial services providers should publicly disclose information on how and where they lend to or invest their money.
