Allegations of human rights abuses against Talisman Energy in Sudan have finally been dismissed. The US Supreme Court threw out an appeal claiming the Canadian oil and gas company was responsible for war crimes and genocide. The case had been brought by the Presbyterian Church of Sudan on behalf of Sudanese victims affected by the civil war there. The decision ends more than a decade of legal dispute that began when Talisman took up Sudanese business interests by buying Arakis Energy in 1998. A class action against Talisman over similar allegations was also rejected by a court in the US last year.
