A new standard for cattle farms has been set by the Rainforest Alliance to enable them to be certified by the organization. The Standard for Sustainable Cattle Production Systems, the first of its kind, includes principles on sustainable pasture management, animal welfare and carbon footprint reduction. In a separate move, the UK dairy industry has been provided with sector-specific guidance on managing its carbon footprint. A document developed by Dairy UK, DairyCo and the Carbon Trust outlines measurement and monitoring standards for the entire supply chain, and is mainly based on the British Standard Institute’s PAS 2050 standard.
