An energy company has featured its latest corporate responsibility report on its own television station dedicated to CSR issues.

UK-based ScottishPower has placed its CSR Annual Review on the CSRTV channel, an online station that hosts short programmes with a corporate responsibility theme.

Ann Loughrey, head of CSR at ScottishPower, said featuring the report on the channel was a good way of putting it in the public eye, adding that the television programming itself has become a valuable part of the reporting process.

‘We made a decision to try to bring our CSR alive, so we’ve been doing a lot of unscripted filming and interviewing with people to hear from the horse’s mouth what is working,’ she said.

‘The feedback we’ve had is that this approach is tremendously valuable because it’s bringing our reporting alive. It means people can click on and find out a little bit more about what we’re doing in schools, on the environment, and with communities.’

The channel hosts more than a dozen programmes on CSR topics, such as ScottishPower’s support for a countryside ranger service, reducing its carbon footprint, its promotion of renewable energy, tackling fuel poverty, and its backing for a community-based football club. Viewers can also post feedback.

Programmes, generally less than five minutes long, are produced in association with Powershift.tv, a company that helps businesses to produce online television stations.

Loughrey told EP: ‘We’ve had a very good response and we intend keeping it updated with new films throughout the year.’
