The business index company MSCI has announced that it will cut up to 80 jobs following its acquisition of the risk management and CSR research firm RiskMetrics.

The move is in accordance with $50million-worth of ‘cost synergies’ identified by MSCI at the time of the $1.6billion takeover in March (EP11, volume 11), although the 80 jobs are only the first round of restructuring.

All affected staff have been notified, or will be by the end of the month, though no geographical locations for the job cuts have been publicly announced.

A second round of restructuring will be in place by Spring 2011.
