All employees at one of the world’s largest hotel groups are to undergo compulsory corporate social responsibility training of two and half hours, starting this year.
Carlson Hotels, which owns the Radisson and Country Inns and Suites chains, will use ‘master trainers’ to instruct hotel managers, who will in turn pass the education on to staff in required training sessions.
In addition, it is establishing in-house responsible business awards, which it hopes will give hoteliers and staff an incentive to reduce the negative social and environmental impacts of their properties.
Carlson, which recently joined the United Nations Global Compact, has introduced the training as part of its new sustainability programme. Other measures include a new environmental performance data collection process and sharing best practices across properties.
The group, which owns about 1000 hotels in 74 countries, has also released a Practical guide to greening your hotel, which offers employees advice on implementing CSR programmes.
