The United Nations should establish a permanent advisory office on human rights and business, the UN special representative on the subject has said. In a progress report to the UN Human Rights Council last month, John Ruggie has declared that his office ‘has become the de facto UN focal point for business and human rights’ and that the UN needs to have something with which to replace it when his mandate ends in 2011.
