Ethical guidance for UK business schools has been produced by a group of management associations and academics.
The draft guide says, among other things, that business schools should 'give due consideration to sustainability and environmental issues' when devising and running courses.
It has been drawn up by the Association of Business Schools, the Advanced Institute of Management, the British Academy of Management and the British Academy for Business, Management Accountancy and Finance.
Huw Morris, dean of Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, said: 'There has been much criticism over the last two years of business schools in the US and UK for their role in teaching many of the people who led and managed the banks and other financial services industries which contributed to the current economic downturn.
'The guidelines are not intended as a rigid code or a means of policing behaviour. They are meant to encourage business schools to ask the right questions when planning their teaching, research and other activities.'
