A certification standard for ‘sustainable events’ has been launched by the British standards organization, BSI Management Systems. BS 8901 is aimed at the estimated 150 companies, 8000 venues and 1600 suppliers involved in event organization in the UK. BSI was spurred to develop the standard by the staging of the 2012 Olympics in London .
