Bottom of the pyramid work is on the agenda at Cambridge

India’s leading role in the world’s economy will be the main subject of study at the Centre for India and Global Business founded last month at Cambridge University’s Judge Business School.

The centre will conduct research and collaborate with key partners in three areas – how and why the world’s largest multinationals are increasingly locating their global research and development activities in India and other emerging countries; how Indian companies are going global and increasing their value; and how businesses and other organizations are assisting ‘bottom-of-the-pyramid’ projects aimed at helping people who live on less than $1 a day through innovative products, services and business models.
    
The director of the centre, established with financial support from the BP Foundation, is Jaideep Prabhu, who was appointed the first Jawaharlal Nehru professor of Indian business and enterprise at Cambridge. His chair is funded with a £3.2million ($4.7m) grant from the Indian government.
