Ambulance group rewards Vedanta

Training and first aid promotion among employees, contract workers and other stakeholders and citizens has earned the 2008 St John Ambulance Award for the Vedanta Aluminium company in the Lanjigarh region of Orissa state, India. 

The company, a subsidiary of the UK metals and mining group Vedanta Resources, is now providing an ambulance to the police service of Bhubaneswar, the capital of Orissa state.

Shri Bhandare, the governor of Orissa, who presented the award, said: ‘It is a matter pride that Vedanta Aluminium Lanjigarh took the lead in training 1569 Anganwadi workers in Kalahandi district. Other industrial organizations must follow the path shown by Vedanta.’ 

Vedanta Aluminium has now received the award for a second consecutive year, and is the first industrial house in Orissa to become an associate life member of the St John Ambulance organization.
