The Central African Republic has become the 24th country to agree to be a ‘candidate’ member of the five-year-old Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, which promotes disclosure of revenue payments by oil, gas and mining companies to officials in developing countries. Candidate countries make a public statement of intent to work with civil society and companies, and to produce an action plan agreed with stakeholders.
