Printing and media giant Axel Springer triumphed in the ‘most sustainable purchasing’ category of last month’s 2008 German Sustainability Awards. The Berlin-based company was especially praised for giving responsibility for sustainable purchasing to the board, and for sharing its experiences freely with other businesses and suppliers. A total of 350 businesses, including more than half of the DAX 30 companies, submitted applications for the awards, which are organized with support from the federal environment ministry.
