Australian consumers are said in a new report to be informed and inspired about climate change and to demand to participate in the debate on the issue.
The report says they want businesses and government to remove the obstacles preventing them from taking action to deal with climate change problems and they require better assurance and proof of corporations’ claims about their climate change products.
Consumers, says the study, would like companies and the authorities to harness citizen power in the drive to make Australia a leader in tackling climate change.
The report – What Assures Consumers in Australia on Climate Change? Switching on Citizen Power – was produced by AccountAbility, the Net Balance Foundation and Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance. The research was sponsored by the Australian Food and Grocery Council, EPA Victoria, the Foster’s lager company, Transurban and the Victorian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
