A dialysis clinic has been opened in India by Bridge of Life – DaVita Medical Missions, a non-profit organization set up by DaVita, a US provider of kidney care products and services.
The clinic is in the Mishirmal Bafnal Parmarath Hospital, Jodhpur, and is the first of two that International Health Benefit Services aims to open in India this year with the support of the DaVita charity.
The new clinic follows a renal awareness camp run in Jodhpur by the charity earlier this year with several healthcare providers and local physicians. More than 150 people received free health screenings, early detection examinations and educational materials on kidney disease.
In India a million people have chronic kidney disease and 7.5 million are at risk for developing renal failure. However, dialysis treatment is generally unavailable.
At the Jodhpur clinic Dr Manish Chaturvedy said: ‘Kidney disease is a huge problem in India and this clinic will provide quality dialysis, both in terms of adequacy and improved sanitation, including optimal pre-treated water for treatment. Along with these health improvements, the new clinic also brings a constant source of inspiration to all of us working together as a team in caring for the patients with renal failure.’
