Australasian seafood firms work on guidelines

Representatives of the Australian and New Zealand seafood industries and the two countries’ governments have met to work on new sustainability reporting guidelines.

The meeting, in Sydney, is the latest development in a two-year project led by the Seafood Choices Alliance and the Global Reporting Initiative to develop guidelines for the food processing sector. It was hosted by the Western Australian Fishery Industry Council and the Sydney Fish Market.

Companies in the Australian and New Zealand seafood industries are collectively valued at A$3billion ($2.5bn, £1.35bn).
