The UK government has intensified its efforts on sustainable procurement by appointing a minister to oversee the process in all departments. Cabinet Office minister Tom Watson has been given the job of taking the lead ‘on improving the way government can achieve sustainable operations and procurement objectives across departments’. Earlier this year the government admitted it was doing too little to ensure that the £125billion ($223bn) worth of goods and services it buys from the private sector and other organizations meet its sustainability goals.
