Two large cosmetics manufacturers are to stop using shark liver oil in moisturizers and lipsticks because of conservation worries. L’Oreal and Unilever will replace the compound squalene, found in shark liver, with plant oils by the end of this year. The campaign group Oceana claims intensive fishing to supply the cosmetics industry has put gulper, kitefin and other sharks in danger of extinction.
