More than 100 companies have joined a new network that promotes sustainable travel.
Members of the National Business Travel Network, created by the UK government's Transport Department, include Asda, AstraZeneca, BMW, Boots, British Land, Computershare, Debenhams, ICI, Ikea, National Express, Next, Pfizer, Somerfield, Virgin Trains and Vodafone.
Leading business groups such as the Confederation of British Industry, the British Chambers of Commerce and the Institute of Directors have agreed to support the network, which will encourage members to share best practice on reducing business travel and on minimizing the environmental impact of different forms of transport.
The government said the network 'seeks to engage at a strategic level with senior managers, including those responsible for finance and corporate social responsibility'.
Transport minister Jim Fitzpatrick said he was 'enormously encouraged' by the number of companies that had signed up.
