The US Securities and Exchange Commission has written to 300 large US companies asking for more details on how they pay their most senior executives. Since this year companies have been required to provide a single figure for each executive’s total compensation package and a written explanation of how it has been arrived at. In August, SEC division of corporation finance director John White told an American Bar Association audience that the commission was ‘seeing a lot of really vague disclosure in this area’.
