Consumers spent €1.6billion ($2bn, £1bn) on Fairtrade-certified products worldwide last year, representing a 41 per cent increase. The greatest growth was in sales of cocoa (up by 93 per cent), coffee (53 per cent) and tea (41 per cent). The number of companies licensed to sell Fairtrade products rose from 1514 to 1954, according to Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International.
