Save the Children Sweden is to hold talks with selected companies in India on management policy and CSR.
The move follows publication of a new report by the charity, Corporate social responsibility and children’s rights in South Asia, that voices concerns that business interest in tackling child labour in the subcontinent is fading – especially in India’s carpet manufacturing sector and among garment makers in Bangladesh.
In particular the report suggests involving the Swedish retailer Ikea, which has a commitment to children’s rights and could be a model for other partnerships, and the energy group Chevron, as it has a commitment to human rights as a core value and could be a ‘torch bearer’.
Chambers of commerce and industry too could be approached with a view to hosting workshops on CSR and children’s rights.
