The first Sino-European co-operation agreement on corporate social
responsibility has been signed with the aim of strengthening ties
between Chinese textile suppliers and European retailers.
The pact commits the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) and the Foreign Trade Association of Europe to encourage co-operation on information-sharing, evaluating suppliers and retailers and preparing training material to improve the supply chain.
Chen Shuijin, the CNTAC vice-president, said: ‘Chinese enterprises have increased awareness about CSR in recent years, thanks to economic globalization and the government’s call for a more harmonious society.’
Insiders predict that collaboration with mature markets could speed up improvements in Chinese companies’ CSR practices.
