Dog race gets firms in trouble

Corporate sponsors of a celebrated long-distance sled-dog race in Alaska are being targeted by campaigners who say the event is cruel to the animals.

Alaska Airlines, Chevron, Coca-Cola, ExxonMobil, Panasonic and Wells Fargo are among companies being bombarded with protest emails from supporters of the Sled Dog Action Coalition, which claims dogs in the annual 16-day Iditarod race habitually suffer death, paralysis, lung damage, ruptured discs and pneumonia.
