HSBC banking group has switched all its UK marketing materials, including direct mail, to paper from recycled sources or forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. HSBC expects the decision, which took effect last month, to apply to about 4000 tonnes of paper a year, but that figure should ‘substantially decrease’ as it phases out unnecessary paper use. During the next few years the policy will be extended to all the paper the group uses worldwide.
