One of Malaysia’s largest companies, the infrastructure conglomerate YTL Corporation Berhad, has become a principal supporter of the International Business Leaders’ Forum and has committed itself to work with the organization to promote responsible business in the country.

Francis Yeoh, YTL’s group managing director, will sit on the forum’s international advisory board.

The company serves more than ten million customers in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the UK and Australia as well as Malaysia, and its business covers utilities, high-speed rail, cement, construction contracting, property development, hotels, resorts and technology. It has a market capitalization of almost $5billion (£2.52bn).

YTL, which is involved in the Clinton Global Initiative, has convinced the Malaysian government to replace much of the coal and oil it uses for power generation with natural gas and other clean fuels.

After the Indonesian earthquake in May 2006 the group contributed to funds for basic necessities such as rice, baby food, milk, antibiotics, first aid packages, tents and candles.

In the UK the company’s Wessex Water operation has been named by the water regulator as the most efficient in England and Wales.
