Two US courts have dismissed separate lawsuits against Coca-Cola and the Canadian energy company Talisman over allegations of involvement in human rights abuses in Colombia and Sudan respectively. The Miami District Court threw out all remaining cases relating to alleged intimidation of trade unionists by two Coca-Cola bottlers in Colombia, while a court in New York dismissed a suit against Talisman, brought under the Alien Tort Claims Act, seeking damages for residents of southern Sudan who claimed to have suffered injuries in conflicts related to Talisman’s indirectly held oil interests in the country between October 1998 and March 2003. In both instances the courts said there was no case to answer.
