The UK compliance specialist CODA has developed software for companies managing their corporate responsibility programmes.

The CODA-Control Manager gives employees management instructions through an automated email system. The software maps the stages of a management process and then advises designated employees what they need to do and when.

It can, for example, remind an employee to input information on a company’s health and safety policies or send procurement managers a checklist to ensure that the company is complying with an ethical supply-chain management policy.

The software, developed with Microsoft, links to in-house email systems and is said to require no specialist training to use. The email can be configured to coach employees on how to complete a task.

CODA has developed templates for individual management processes, such as hiring and training. In other areas of corporate responsibility management, such as the environment or community partnerships, companies can adapt the system to their existing internal policies and procedures.

The software makes it possible for companies to apply social and environmental policies consistently throughout the organization, according to David Turner, CODA’s group marketing director, and provides evidence of compliance in the event of litigation.

CODA, which is listed on the AIM stock exchange in London, is using the software to manage its own CSR programme in the 13 countries where it operates.
