Vietnam is among the countries to which the International Business Leaders’ Forum is to extend its Youth Career Initiative, a project that equips young people for the hotel and tourism trade.
The initiative provides a six-month educational programme to help youngsters in deprived communities to break the poverty cycle and increase their career choices.
The initiative was introduced in Thailand in 1995. It has since been offered in Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brazil, Ethiopia, Poland and Romania.
It gives training in life and work skills in more than 15 aspects of the hotel industry. However, although the programme is operated exclusively in the hotel trade, about half the graduates find work in other service sectors, such as banking and nursing.
The other countries to which the programme is to be extended are Costa Rica, Egypt, Kenya, Mexico and Spain.
