An inquiry into the future role of business in society has been set up by the UK-based Tomorrow's Company think-tank.

The inquiry, which is now taking submissions, will consider the 'role and purpose of global companies and the conditions for their success in the future'.

The questions it will seek answers for are:
what should be a company's role in society, globally and locally?
how should future collaboration between companies, financial institutions, government and civil society be developed and managed?
how can companies lead, manage and benefit from a diverse workforce?
how can companies form productive relationships with their critics?

The inquiry will be co-chaired by John Manzoni, BP's group managing director of refining and marketing, and Nandan Nilekani, chief executive of Infosys. Others on the team are John Elkington, co-founder of the SustainAbility consultancy, and representatives of ABB, Alcan, Ford, and Standard Chartered Bank.
