Alcoa, the international aluminium company, has released its first
China Sustainability Report, detailing its environmental, social and
economic activities in the country last year and the challenges it
faced.
The report shows that Alcoa introduced and continued many health-related programmes, including workplace hazard assessments, occupational medical health projects, and healthy workforce initiatives. On the environment front, the company upgraded its waste water treatment area at the Tianjin plant and implemented an environmental management system at the Shanghai operation.
The company contributed 2.6million renminbi ($320,000, £180,000) in grants to Chinese organizations, and employees gave more than 900 hours to their communities as volunteers.
Alcoa, which is one of the world's largest producers of primary and fabricated aluminium and serves the aerospace, automotive, packaging, construction, transport and industrial markets, delivered the report at a meeting of the World Council for Sustainable Development in Beijing.
