The Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices, which promotes business ethics in the industry’s supply chain, has named Michael Rae chief executive and Santiago Porto programme director. Both took up their posts in London in February. Rae joins from WWF, where he has worked since 1989 on various projects, including an initiative on the ethical performance of the mining sector. Porto moves from the Ethical Trading Initiative, where he was membership development manager. The council will initially consider the diamond and gold jewellery supply chain before moving onto silver, rubies and other precious stones at a later date.
