A field trip to look at practical stakeholder engagement is on the
programme for this month’s CSR Asia winter school in Hong Kong.
The subjects for the workshops at the school include human rights, child labour, risk management, and employment law in south-east Asia and China. The case studies for consideration include the Coca-Cola water dispute in India, the objections to Newmont and gold mining in Indonesia, and labour standards in the Cambodian garment industry. There will be an emphasis on how CSR is linked to good business through reputation.
The school is aimed at new CSR managers, auditing staff, researchers and postgraduate students. Local non-governmental organizations and business representatives will also participate.
After the school, CSR Asia is running a day trip to Shenzhen, southern China, including a factory visit, for practical experience of the issues covered.
The school runs 11-14 January and costs $1000 (£570).
