Businesses should take a more socially responsible attitude to paying taxes by making an explicit public commitment to abide by the spirit of tax law, according to guidelines from Henderson Global Investors. Responsible Tax says there is ‘an important component of public expectation regarding CSR and tax’ and that companies ‘may be particularly vulnerable to public criticism if they are perceived as not making an appropriate contribution’ to tax revenue, especially in developing countries.
