The resources of US businesses should be pooled and directed through public-private partnerships to improve their assistance to the devastated areas of Thailand, Sri Lanka and Indonesia, a tsunami summit has been told.
Companies could assist with training programmes for hotel workers, teachers and health care workers needed in the wake of the disaster.
The proposals were among recommendations made by James Lee Witt, chairman and chief executive of the safety and crisis management consultancy James Lee Witt Associates, to a conference on rehabilitation and reconstruction sponsored by the US Chamber of Commerce and the Asia Foundation.
'I've seen many disaster scenes in my career, but none like these,' Witt told the summit, held in Washington.
