Good management, in which the ethics of enterprise are given priority over profit, is one of the main factors that earned the steel group Posco the grand prize in Korea’s 2005 Most Respected Enterprises awards.

The awards, run jointly by the Federation of Korean Industries and the Seoul Economy Daily, recognize Posco’s contribution to the community and the environment and its management innovations. The Seoul Economy Daily reported that Posco, which is now the world’s largest steel producer with 2003 net earnings of 1980billion won ($1.98bn, £1bn), had made history in its sector by commercializing up-to-date technology and achieving stable growth despite a raw materials shortage. Posco shared the grand prize with Samsung.
