Corporate social responsibility researchers are being urged to lobby the European Commission for a bigger slice of its research budget.

Peter Lacy, executive director of the European Academy of Business in Society, has called on interested parties to take part in consultation on the EC’s Seventh Research Framework Programme for 2006-2010.

He says that this is an ideal opportunity to press for more resources for research in this area.

Although the Commission included the topic for the first time in its Sixth Research Framework Programme, the four projects in that funding round accounted for only €3million ($3.9m, £2.1m) out of a total research budget of €20billion.

‘A strong response from the European CSR research community is vital,’ Lacy said.

The Commission is not asking for detailed research topics or for proposals. Rather, it is inviting general comment on the Commission’s overall research priorities.
