UK culture secretary Tessa Jowell has decided against introducing measures to curb ‘junk food’ advertising to children – or to force food and drinks companies to use fewer potentially unhealthy ingredients. Jowell had conducted a review prompted by concern over obesity but concluded that the main problem was lack of exercise, although companies could do more to improve their products and marketing. UK prime minister Tony Blair has publicly backed her stance.
