AT&T has produced its first corporate citizenship report. The unverified document covers what the telecoms giant believes are its main achievements in corporate citizenship over its 117-year history.

But there are more recent statistics: last year, contributions to the community fell to $40million (£24.7m) from $45.8m in 2001. The company spent more than $1billion with ethnic minority and women-owned businesses in 2002 after setting up a programme to broaden the diversity of its suppliers.

On the environment, it calculates that its teleworking scheme, which allows employees to work from home, has cut polluting air emissions by almost 45,000 tons a year.

In 2002, AT&T adopted a CSR policy which committed the company, among other things, to respect diversity, protect the environment and enforce ethical advertising and sponsorship standards.

The US-based multinational has a turnover of around $40bn and 50 million customers around the world.
