Tobacco company Brown & Williamson and finance firm Lehman Brothers Holdings are among 13 companies named in lawsuits filed by African-American slave descendants demanding reparations for the treatment of their ancestors. The suits, filed in federal courts in New York and San Francisco, claim the companies were guilty of human rights violations and ‘unjust enrichment from the immoral and inhumane institution of slavery’.
